honesty is the best policy

Being honest in your writing is very important. I think many people aren't honest in their writing. Sometimes I think it may be because of embarrassment or not wanting to talk about themselves. I do think though, that this make writing so much better to read. I would have to say that the dissertation I read would agree too.

Now why would any one care about being truthful online? One argument is that people remember what they want to remember, so they can remember things falsely. But, the author argues that remembering is because of your culture, who you are, were you came from, etc. I do have to agree with the author on this one. I feel like everything in life always has two sides to the story, also another side that is usually unknown. It both sides of the parties involved, and also the unknown which is the truth.

My favorite part mentioned in the piece I've read so far is that different writing comes from the situations people are in. Situations may not be good nor bad but I do think this shapes a writers pieces of writing especially in memoirs. Some people may have a bad or good situation which makes them write about something fictional even though they are including places and times. It may not be exactly the truth but it can refer to the truth if that makes sense. I also think that people can be in bad or good situation that makes them write about the cold hard truth.

I would have to agree with the author that people's personal lives shape their writings.
